Fernando Tatis Jr. is a popular man. That much we knew, of course. But it went to a whole new level this week. For one, the Phillie Phanatic tried to dissuade fans at Citizens Bank Park from seeking Tatis’ autograph before the Phillies played the Padres. And elsewhere in the NL East, Braves first baseman and reigning National League MVP Freddie Freeman revealed on Thursday that his son, Charlie, is ecstatic that his dad has made his fifth All-Star team — because that means the youngster will get to meet Tatis.

“Charlie’s really gonna enjoy this one,” he said. “That’s what it’s all about. I’m just happy to make it so Charlie can go and meet some more players. That’s what makes it exciting for me, is having my son be more excited than I am. It’s just cool. Five [All-Star selections] definitely is special. But I’m just more excited that Charlie gets to go again.” Come All-Star week, Tatis will be getting a lot of attention, not only from fans and media, but from other players — and perhaps their kids — as well.
